HISTORY
The
journey to Pamir Times
The idea of
creating a citizen media
organization in Gilgit - Baltistan (NAs Pakistan) was initially discussed by Noor Muhammad and Zulfiqar
Ali Khan, founders of the Pamir Times Magazine and Pamir Times Blog.
Both had been involved in dissemination of news about the region
through www.gojal.net and
www.gojal.piczo.com (a
free site that was later deleted to avoid replication). They,
later, joined hands to manage a news segment on Gojal Net only.
Later on the
Pamir Times Magazine was also launched (updated on monthly
basis. However, the magazine, hosted at
www.magazine.gojal.net
wasn't interactive and gathering information throughout the
month was not an efficient process. So, the need for a simple
format web-tool that is interactive, easy to manage and cost
effective was always being felt. This lead to creation of Pamir
Times Blog (www.pamirtimes.wordpress.com),
and since then there has been no looking back. The first post on
Pamir Times was made on 23rd October 2007, while it formally
started functioning on 1st November, the same year, coinciding
with the independence day of Gilgit - Baltistan.
During the
past eighteen months Pamir Times has made 1200 posts, approved
around 9, 000 comments and has been visited around 600, 000
times. PT's success has inspired over half a dozen
regional news blogs in Gilgit - Baltistan. PT is spearheading
the efforts to create an alliance of the bloggers from different
parts of Gilgit - Baltistan.
